FAQ

Occupational Therapy services are designed to help individuals of all ages improve their ability to perform daily living activities. I offer a range of services including environmental modifications, individual therapy, group therapy, and feeding therapy all in your home or natural environment. Here are some common questions I receive from clients:

  • How do I know if I need Occupational Therapy?
Sometimes your doctor or another professional may refer you to Occupational Therapy. But you can also refer yourself if you feel you need it. Occupational Therapy assists individuals in doing what they need to do, want to do, or are required to do in life. This could be self-care related like taking a shower again after an injury or disability, or it could be play/leisure focused like playing golf again after an accident. If there is something you are having trouble doing in life, for any reason, Occupational Therapy can likely help. Feel free to reach out to me to see if I am a good fit to help you meet your needs.
  • How long does it take to reach my goals?
This is difficult to answer. Each person is unique! Sessions will last approximately 55 minutes. The frequency and duration of services will depend on each individual and will be agreed upon as a team decision. Home programming will be provided to help with carryover of skills and to help reach goals more quickly.
  • How do I know if my child needs Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy is all about improving a person's ability to function in daily life. If you've noticed your child is having difficulty completing tasks or activities that would be expected of them for their age, if they are struggling with emotional or sensory regulation, or if they have difficulties with peers, they may benefit from occupational therapy. Feel free to schedule a free phone screening to share your concerns, and I will let you know if it sounds like occupational therapy is a good fit.
  • How do I get started with your services?
Please reach out to me with your address and I will let you know if I am servicing your area. We will work together to figure out appointment times.
  • What is your cancelation policy?
Cancelations will happen, and that's okay! If you cancel with more than 24 hours notice, there is not a fee. Cancelations within 24 hours will be subject to a cancelation fee, and an additional fee will be charged for "No Call No Show" appointments (meaning you are not home when I arrive for the appointment). I will make every effort to try and reschedule canceled appointments when possible.
  • What is Early Intervention?
Early Intervention is a state run program that provides comprehensive therapy services to children ages birth-3 years old at little to no cost to you. If your child is younger than 3 years old, they may be eligible for Early Intervention services. Ask your pediatrician or visit this website for more information: https://eiclearinghouse.org/getting-started/referral/
  • Do I have to be home with my child during therapy?
If your child is receiving services, you, or another guardian (18 years or older) must be present with the child during therapy sessions.
  • Why is an evaluation required?
An evaluation is required so I can identify the client's strengths and areas of need to form a plan of care. It is important to understand potential causes and reasons for your concerns, which can be identified during an evaluation. Evaluations are completed at the initiation of services and annually if services last more than one year. I will look at physical, cognitive, and emotional skills potentially impacting performance related to sleep, regulation, play, feeding, education, and daily living skills.
  • I don't want therapy in my home. Where else can we have therapy sessions?
Therapy sessions can occur almost anywhere! Other than the home environment, therapy sessions could occur at the park or local playground, grocery stores, restaurants, local library, or anywhere you spend your time. If services are for your child and they attend daycare or private school, I can go to that location for their sessions, if the location allows it. In those instances, a parent does not need to be present. Location of services will be agreed upon prior to the initiation of services.
